Concerts in Spring 2019
After the successful Dutch premiere of Kurtág’s opera “Fin de Partie”, Markus Stenz heads to the United States for three concerts with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (March 29-31, 2019). He will be joined by the German pianist Lars Vogt, on the programme are works by Schönberg and Brahms.
In April, he conducts the Easter Concerts of the Orchestra della Toscana in Firenze (April 17, 2019) and Arezzo (April 18, 2019). Michele Marelli will be the soloist in the Italian premiere of “Air on Air”, a Concerto for Basset Horn and Orchestra by Fedele. Wagner’s “Siegfried-Idyll” and Schumann’s Second Symphony frame this concerto.
He returns to “his” orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for concerts in Utrecht and Amsterdam, where he will perform the late-romantic “Das Lied von der Erde” by Mahler with Wiebke Lehmkuhl, alto, and Tomislav Mužek, tenor. At the concert in Utrecht (April 25, 2019), the “Musique pour l'esprit en deuil” by Escher will open the concert. In Amsterdam (April 28, 2019), Mahler’s ode to life and nature will be the only work.
Markus Stenz concludes spring not far away from his hometown Cologne: he will conduct the Dortmunder Philharmoniker (May 7 and 8, 2019). The 8th Philharmonic Concert of the season is titled “Düstere Leidenschaften” (sinister passion) and combines excerpts from the ballet “Gajaneh” by Chatschaturjan and his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra (soloist: Nemanja Radulović) with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.
